Ossabaw Posse

from $55.00

Sometimes seen all together in a herd of 8, the true celebrities of Ossabaw Island are Sandy
Torrey-West’s beloved Sicilian donkeys. With names like Mary Helen, Donkey-Oatie, Sugar
and Cinnamon, they are what is left of what was a herd of almost 150+ at one time. They wander the the maritime forest and pastures freely, and sometimes can be seen peering over the open beaches.

Ossabaw Island is a Heritage Preserve owned by the State of Georgia. At approximately 26,000 acres, Ossabaw Island is Georgia’s third largest barrier island.

The Department of Natural Resources (DNR) manages the island and the Ossabaw Island Foundation maintains several island buildings and coordinates on-island programming.
